There is an increase concern of scam phone calls targeted by bogus callers pretending to be from Microsoft or working on behalf of Microsoft claiming they are from a computer company alerting you that your system maybe infected and needs your attention.
These bogus callers are run from call centres based in Kota, Rajasthan India but can also be traced back to UK.
They will take you through some procedures to enable them to take control of your computer remotely without your consent even your Knowledge. The purpose of the bogus caller is to gain access and obtain personal details e.g. passwords and recent card transactions including banking online details. Sometimes this can lead to identity fraud and or collective email spammers. Incidentally, the scam is really little more than a deceptively simple number game by cold-calling lots of people to cause nuisance but can cause hardware failure. Few are bound to be experiencing computer issues and thinking that the call is legitimate. If you continue to accept their help on the phone they will talk you through some installations and instructions by using legitimate online remote desktop software to gain access to your desktop. Many recent bogus callers will ask you to view the ‘Windows Event Viewer’ tool that frequently has errors and makes you believe that it has problems but this is a common issue for windows. < Go Back
